Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients to have them at hand.
  • Chop the onion and mince the garlic.
  • Shred your cheese of choice.
  • Lay out the bread for assembly.
  • Heat your skillet over medium heat.

Cooking/Assembling

  • Add olive oil to the skillet and sauté the chopped onions until translucent, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
  • Introduce the ground beef, breaking it apart with a spatula, and cook until browned, about 7-10 minutes.
  • Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  • Layer the beef mixture on a slice of bread, add cheese on top, and close with another slice.
  • Repeat for the remaining sandwiches.

Serving

  • Wipe out the skillet and return it to medium heat.
  • Transfer the assembled melts to the skillet, cooking until golden brown, about 4-5 minutes per side.
  • Check for doneness by pressing down on the sandwich; it should be firm and the cheese should ooze.
  • Remove from heat and let rest for a minute before slicing.
