Preparation

  • Warm the buttermilk to around 110°F (43°C) to activate the yeast.
  • In a large mixing bowl, combine softened butter, sugar, and kosher salt.
  • Add the warmed buttermilk to the bowl, mixing gently to dissolve.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the eggs, and then mix them into the buttermilk mixture.

Dough Making

  • Gradually add all-purpose flour to the mixture, stirring to form a dough.
  • Fold in the rapid-rise yeast until evenly distributed.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8-10 minutes until smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a kitchen towel, and let rise for 1 hour.
  • Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Punch down the risen dough gently.
  • Divide the dough into 12 portions and shape them into balls. Arrange in a greased baking pan.
  • Cover the rolls and let them rise for 30 minutes.

Baking

  • Bake the rolls for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown.
  • Brush with softened butter after removing from oven.
  • Let cool for a few minutes before serving, sprinkling with Maldon sea salt if desired.

Notes

To maintain the rolls' softness, store in an airtight container. You can meal prep by making the dough ahead and freeze it before the second rise.
