  • 1 cup water Needed for rice.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • In a large skillet, cook ground beef over medium heat until browned; drain excess fat.
  • Stir in onion, bell peppers, and garlic; cook until softened, about 5-7 minutes.

Cooking

  • Stir in rice, water, diced tomatoes, Italian seasoning, Worcestershire sauce, beef broth, salt, and pepper.
  • Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce heat, cover, and simmer for 15 minutes.
  • Pour the mixture into a greased 9x13-inch baking dish.

Serving

  • Sprinkle half the cheese over the top, then cover tightly with foil.
  • Bake for 15 minutes, then remove foil.
  • Top with remaining cheese and broil for 3-4 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  • Let the casserole cool slightly before serving.

Notes

This casserole can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to two days before baking. For a lighter option, swap ground beef for turkey or chicken.
