Ingredients

For the Filling

  • 1 head Head of Cabbage Provides a soft, nutritious outer wrap.
  • 1 lb Ground Beef Offers hearty flavor and protein.
  • 2 cups Cooked Rice Adds bulk and texture.
  • 1 medium Onion, chopped Enhances flavor and aroma.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Provides aroma and robust taste.
  • 2 cups Tomato Sauce Keeps the rolls moist and flavorful.
  • 1 tsp Salt Enhances core flavors.
  • 1 tsp Pepper Simple seasoning.
  • 1 tsp Paprika Adds warmth and depth to the dish.
  • 1 tbsp Olive Oil Used for sautéing.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Boil a large pot of water. Remove the core from the head of cabbage.
  • Gently place the cabbage in boiling water and cook for about 3-5 minutes until leaves are soft and pliable.
  • Remove the cabbage and allow it to cool. Peel off 8-10 leaves for stuffing.
  • In a skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion and minced garlic until translucent, about 3-4 minutes.
  • In a bowl, mix cooked rice, ground beef, sautéed onion, minced garlic, paprika, salt, and pepper until well combined.

Cook/Assemble

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Lay a cabbage leaf flat and place a generous spoonful of the beef mixture at the base of the leaf.
  • Fold the sides over the filling and roll it up tightly. Place seam side down in a baking dish.
  • Repeat until all mixture is used. Pour tomato sauce evenly over rolls.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes to an hour until the beef is fully cooked.

Serve

  • Remove the foil and allow rolls to cool for 5 minutes before serving.
  • Plate the cabbage rolls and drizzle with fresh tomato sauce from the baking dish.
  • Optionally, garnish with fresh herbs or additional seasoning.

Notes

Choose large outer cabbage leaves for easier rolling. Don't overstuff the rolls; leave room for expansion during cooking. Assemble the rolls ahead of time for mingling flavors.
