Ingredients
  

For the Casserole

  • 1 lb Ground beef or turkey Provides protein and heartiness to the dish.
  • 1 medium Onion, diced Adds sweetness and depth of flavor.
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced Infuses the casserole with a warm, aromatic scent.
  • 1 head Green cabbage, chopped The star! Tender and flavorful when cooked.

  • 14.5 oz Diced tomatoes Adds moisture and a slight tang.
  • 15 oz Tomato sauce Binds everything together with rich flavor.
  • 1 tsp Paprika Brightens up the dish.
  • 1 tsp Oregano Adds depth of flavor.
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 1/2 tsp Pepper
  • 1 cup Cheddar cheese, shredded Melts deliciously on top for that gooey finish.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Chop the cabbage into bite-sized pieces.
  • Dice the onion and mince the garlic.

Cooking

  • In a large skillet, brown the ground beef or turkey over medium heat with diced onion and garlic until fully cooked.
  • Add the cooked rice, diced tomatoes, tomato sauce, and spices. Stir well until combined.
  • In a large baking dish, layer half of the cabbage on the bottom. Pour half of the meat mixture over it, followed by another layer of cabbage and the remaining meat mixture.
  • Top with the remaining cabbage and sprinkle cheddar cheese over the top.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes until bubbly.

Serving

  • Once out of the oven, let it cool for a few minutes to set.
  • Garnish with fresh parsley before serving warm.
  • Enjoy by itself or with crusty bread for dipping!

Notes

Make it creamy by adding a dollop of sour cream or cream cheese to the meat mixture for extra richness. Assemble in advance and keep it in the fridge before baking; it's perfect for a busy weeknight!
