Ingredients
  

Pasta

  • 8 ounces elbow, spiral, or shell macaroni noodles Base of the dish.
  • 2 cups water For cooking the pasta.

Dairy

  • 12 ounces Kroger evaporated milk Provides a creamy texture.
  • 4 ounces American cheese Melts beautifully for creaminess.
  • 4 ounces mild cheddar cheese Classic cheesy flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons butter For richness.

Seasonings

  • 1.5 teaspoons kosher salt Enhances flavors.
  • 1 teaspoon dry mustard Adds tangy depth.
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder Optional, for added flavor.

Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients and cooking tools.
  • Measure out your pasta, evaporated milk, and cheeses; set aside.

Cooking

  • In a medium pot, combine 2 cups of water, 8 ounces of macaroni, and 1 ½ teaspoons of kosher salt.
  • Bring the water to a rolling boil over medium-high heat.
  • Once boiling, add the macaroni and cook for 7-9 minutes, stirring frequently until al dente.
  • Drain the pasta and return it to the pot.
  • Over low heat, add 2 tablespoons of butter and stir until melted.
  • Pour in 12 ounces of evaporated milk and add 1 teaspoon of dry mustard, stirring well.
  • Gradually mix in 4 ounces each of American cheese and grated mild cheddar cheese until melted and creamy.

Serving

  • Remove from heat and give your mac and cheese a final stir.
  • Serve hot in bowls or plates and garnish with garlic powder if desired.

Notes

For extra creaminess, add a splash more evaporated milk while mixing in the cheese. Can use a blend of cheddar and mozzarella for variation. Best served fresh, but can be prepped ahead and stored.
