Preparation

  • Wash the broccoli thoroughly under cold water and shake off excess water.
  • Cut the broccoli into uniform florets to ensure even cooking.
  • Peel and chop the garlic finely to release its flavors during cooking.
  • Prepare your steaming setup using a steamer basket or a microwave-safe dish.

Cooking

  • Add 1 inch of water to a pot; bring to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Place the broccoli florets into the steamer basket and cover with a lid.
  • Steam for 3-5 minutes until the broccoli is bright green and tender-crisp.
  • While the broccoli steams, heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat.
  • Once heated, add the chopped garlic and cook for 1-2 minutes until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.

Serving

  • Remove the steamed broccoli from the pot and transfer it to a serving bowl.
  • Squeeze fresh lemon juice and add zest over the broccoli.
  • Pour the garlic oil mixture over the broccoli and toss gently to combine.
  • Season with salt and freshly ground pepper to taste.
  • Serve warm as a wonderful side dish to any meal.

Notes

For extra flavor, allow the garlic to cook just until golden but be cautious not to burn it. Use freshly squeezed lemon juice for the best flavor impact. To save time, wash and cut the broccoli ahead of time and store it in the fridge.
