  • 1/2 tsp Black pepper A finishing spice adding warmth and bite.
  • 4 pieces Burger buns The sturdy base to hold your juicy creation.
  • as desired pieces Optional toppings Fresh lettuce, tomato, cheese, or your favorites to enhance flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients to streamline the cooking process.
  • In a large bowl, combine the ground elk meat, diced jalapeños, diced onion, minced garlic, chili powder, cumin, salt, and black pepper.
  • Using your hands, mix gently until just combined—be careful not to overwork the mixture to keep your burgers tender.
  • Divide the mixture into equal patties; aim for about 1/4 pound each.
  • Preheat your grill or frying pan over medium-high heat (about 375°F or 190°C).

Cooking

  • Place the patties on the hot grill or pan. Cook for about 5-6 minutes on each side for medium doneness, or until the internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  • For the final minute, consider adding cheese on top of the patties if desired. Close the grill lid or cover the pan to melt the cheese perfectly.
  • While the patties cook, toast the burger buns lightly on the grill or a separate pan.
  • Once the burgers are cooked, remove them from the heat and let them rest for a couple of minutes.

Serving

  • Assemble your burgers by placing each patty on the bottom half of the toasted bun.
  • Add your favorite toppings—fresh lettuce, sliced tomatoes, or an extra layer of jalapeños for those who like it hot!
  • Top with the other half of the bun and serve immediately with your choice of sides, like a salad or sweet potato fries.

Notes

Store leftover patties in an airtight container to keep them fresh for meal prep. For added moisture, consider mixing in a spoonful of olive oil if the elk meat seems dry. Use a meat thermometer to ensure the burgers reach the recommended internal temperature.
