  • 3 whole cloves Bring a warm, sweet-spicy note.
  • 1 stick cinnamon Adds natural sweetness and aroma.
  • 2 tablespoons loose black tea or 2 tea bags Provides strong flavor and caffeine.
  • 1 cup oat milk Creates a creamy richness.
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar Adds sweetness; can substitute with maple syrup.

Preparation

  • In a small saucepan, add the water, sliced fresh ginger, cardamom pods, black peppercorns, cloves, and cinnamon stick.
  • Heat the mixture over medium heat until it reaches a gentle boil, then reduce the heat.
  • Allow the spices to simmer for about five minutes.
  • Introduce the loose black tea or tea bags to the pot and continue simmering for an additional two minutes.
  • Add the oat milk, stirring to combine, then increase heat slightly until it returns to a gentle simmer.
  • Keep an eye on the mixture and cook for three to four minutes.
  • Stir in the brown sugar until fully dissolved.
  • Using a fine mesh sieve, strain the chai into cups, ensuring the spices are removed.
  • Serve hot and enjoy the creamy, spicy aroma.

Notes

Use high-quality loose black tea for best flavor. Adjust steeping time for desired strength and consider adding a touch of vanilla extract when adding oat milk. Experiment with sweeteners and serve in pre-warmed mugs.
