Ingredients

Bread Ingredients

  • 4 cups All-Purpose Flour Provides the structure and chewiness.
  • 1 cup Sourdough Starter Cultivates flavor and helps the bread rise naturally.
  • 1.5 cups Warm Water Activates the yeast and helps blend ingredients.
  • 1 tbsp Salt Enhances flavor and strengthens gluten structure.
  • 1 tbsp Sugar Aids yeast fermentation for better rise.
  • 2 tsp Instant Yeast Ensures a quick and reliable rise.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the sourdough starter, warm water, salt, sugar, and instant yeast. Stir until smooth.
  • Gradually add the all-purpose flour, mixing until fully incorporated.
  • Knead the dough on a lightly floured surface for about 10 minutes until it’s elastic and smooth.
  • Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it with a kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm area for approximately 1 hour or until doubled in size.

Cooking

  • Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down to release gases, then turn it out onto a floured surface.
  • Shape the dough into a loaf by flattening it slightly and rolling it tightly.
  • Place the shaped loaf on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, cover, and let it rise for another 30 minutes.
  • Smoothly score the top with a sharp knife for steam release, then place it in the preheated oven.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes until the crust is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.

Serving

  • Once baked, remove the bread from the oven and let it cool on a wire rack for at least 15 minutes.
  • Slice the bread using a serrated knife for clean, even cuts.
  • Enjoy fresh or toasted with your favorite toppings!

Notes

For a crispier crust, place a small pan of water in the oven while baking. If you prefer a softer crust, cover the loaf with a damp kitchen towel while cooling. Slice bread only when completely cooled for the best texture.
