Preparation

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, yeast, salt, and sugar.
  • Pour in the warm water and oil, then stir with a rubber spatula until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Knead briefly until the dough feels tacky but not sticky.
  • Place the dough in a bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 hour until doubled in size.

Baking

  • Set your oven to 425ºF to prepare for baking.
  • Divide the dough into 12 pieces, roll each into a long log, then twist them into pretzel shapes.
  • In a bowl, dissolve the baking soda in hot water to prepare the dip.
  • Dip each pretzel into the baking soda solution, then place them on a parchment-lined sheet pan.
  • Sprinkle the dipped pretzels generously with Kosher salt before baking.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
  • Immediately after baking, brush the warm pretzels with melted butter and serve warm.
