Ingredients

For the Marinade

  • 1 lb Beef Strips Tender cuts like sirloin or ribeye
  • 2 tbsp Soy Sauce For umami richness
  • 1 tbsp Oyster Sauce Optional for added flavor
  • 1 tbsp Sesame Oil Provides a nutty finish
  • 2 cloves Garlic Minced for depth of flavor
  • 1 tbsp Fresh Ginger Grated for aroma
  • 1 pinch Salt To taste
  • 1 pinch Pepper To taste

For Cooking

  • 2 tbsp Vegetable Oil For searing
  • 1 medium Onion Sliced for sweetness and texture
  • 2 tbsp Hoisin Sauce Adds sweet and tangy flavor
  • 1 tbsp Rice Vinegar For brightness and balance
  • 1 tbsp Cornstarch To thicken the sauce

Instructions

Preparation

  • Slice the beef strips into thin, uniform pieces.
  • Finely mince the garlic and grate the fresh ginger.
  • Combine the beef, soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), sesame oil, garlic, ginger, salt, and pepper in a medium bowl and marinate for at least 10 minutes.

Cooking

  • Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the marinated beef to the skillet and sear until browned, approximately 5–7 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Remove beef from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add the sliced onions and cook until soft, about 3–4 minutes.

Serving

  • Return the cooked beef to the skillet with the onions.
  • Pour in hoisin sauce, rice vinegar, and cornstarch, then stir to combine.
  • Cook for an additional 2–3 minutes, allowing the sauce to thicken.
  • Serve immediately over steamed rice, quinoa, or lettuce wraps.

Notes

For spiciness, add red pepper flakes. Use a high smoke point oil for better searing. Store leftovers in airtight containers.
