Ingredients

For the Carrots

  • 1 pound fresh carrots peeled and cut into 1-inch pieces

For the Seasoning

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter melted
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt adjust to taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground, adjust to taste

Instructions

Preparation

  • Wash your carrots under cold water and use a vegetable brush if needed to remove dirt.
  • Peel each carrot using a vegetable peeler to remove the outer skin.
  • Cut the carrots into uniform pieces, about 1-inch thick for even cooking.
  • Set up your steamer. If you don’t have a steamer basket, a metal colander placed over a pot of simmering water works.

Cooking

  • Fill your pot with about an inch of water, ensuring it doesn't touch the bottom of the steamer basket, and bring to a boil.
  • Place your prepared carrot pieces in the steamer, cover with a lid, and steam for about 6-8 minutes or until fork-tender.
  • While the carrots are steaming, melt the unsalted butter in a small bowl and mix in the kosher salt and black pepper.

Serving

  • Once the carrots are done, carefully remove the steamer from the pot.
  • Transfer the carrots to a serving bowl and drizzle the melted butter mixture over the top.
  • Toss gently to combine and serve warm.

Notes

For extra flavor, try adding a squeeze of lemon juice before serving. Ensure even cooking by cutting carrots the same size. Swap butter with olive oil for a dairy-free option.
