  • 1 cup unsalted butter Provides richness and a tender texture.
  • 2 cups granulated sugar Sweetens and creates a chewy brownie interior.
  • 1/2 cup canola oil Adds moisture and enhances the fudginess.
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract Brings depth of flavor with its warm, aromatic notes.
  • 4 large eggs Binds ingredients and contributes to the brownie’s structure.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Adds bulk and helps create the brownie structure.
  • 1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Delivers a deep chocolate flavor and darker color.
  • 1/2 cup malted milk powder Optional, but adds an intriguing malt flavor.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Enhances sweetness and balances flavors.
  • 1 cup mini semi-sweet chocolate chips Adds extra pockets of chocolate goodness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and prepare your baking pan.
  • Line a metal cake pan with parchment paper and lightly spray it with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  • In a saucepan over low heat, melt the unsalted butter until completely liquid.
  • Stir the granulated sugar into the melted butter until the mixture is smooth.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit for about 5 minutes to cool.
  • Mix in the canola oil and vanilla extract, stirring until well combined.
  • Beat in the large eggs, one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next.
  • Sift all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, malted milk powder (if using), and salt into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the mini semi-sweet chocolate chips into the batter, distributing them evenly.
  • Transfer the brownie batter into the prepared baking pan and spread it evenly.

Baking

  • Bake for 25-30 minutes for a 9×13-inch pan, or 40-45 minutes for an 8×8/9×9-inch pan, until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Allow the brownies to cool in the pan before cutting them into squares for serving.

Notes

For the best results, use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips. Avoid overmixing the batter after adding the dry ingredients to maintain the fudgy texture. Cooling the brownies completely before slicing helps them set and makes cutting easier.
