Preparation

  • In a bowl, combine all-purpose flour, instant yeast, and salt.
  • Whisk together until well mixed—a minute will do!
  • Add warm water slowly, stirring until a shaggy dough forms.
  • Cover the bowl with a clean kitchen towel and let it sit at room temperature for 12 to 18 hours.

Cooking and Baking

  • After the resting time, preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C) and place a Dutch oven inside to heat up.
  • Gently flour a clean surface, then scrape the dough onto it—no need to punch down!
  • Shape the dough into a ball, tucking the edges underneath.
  • Carefully remove the hot Dutch oven and place parchment paper inside.
  • Transfer the dough onto the parchment, cover, and bake for 30 minutes with the lid on.
  • Remove the lid and bake for another 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Serving

  • Once the bread is golden brown, remove it from the oven.
  • Let it cool on a wire rack for at least 30 minutes before slicing.
  • Serve warm or store for later use. Enjoy with your favorite toppings!

Notes

Use a kitchen scale for precise flour measurements. For extra flavor, consider adding herbs or spices into the dough. Store baked bread in a paper bag to maintain crustiness. Freeze for up to 3 months.
