Preparation

  • In a mixing bowl, combine fresh strawberries, lemon juice, and chopped basil. Set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together all-purpose flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • In another bowl, mix together milk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.

Cooking

  • Slowly add the milk mixture to the flour mixture until just combined.
  • Pour the strawberry mixture into a greased baking dish, evenly spreading it out.
  • Spoon the batter over the strawberry mixture, covering as much of the fruit as possible.
