Main Ingredients

  • 8 tbsp cold butter, diced Creates a flaky, rich texture.
  • 0.5 lb sharp white cheddar, grated Brings creaminess and a bold flavor.
  • 1 tbsp chopped fresh jalapeño Provides a fresh, spicy punch.
  • 1-2 tbsp cold water Helps bind the dough together.

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a bowl, whisk together flour, salt, black pepper, and cayenne until combined.

Cooking

  • Add the cold, diced butter to your flour mixture. Using a pastry cutter or your fingers, mix until the mixture resembles small peas.
  • Stir in the grated cheddar and chopped jalapeño until just mixed.
  • Gradually add cold water, mixing until the dough just comes together.
  • On a floured surface, roll out your dough to about ¼ inch thick.
  • Use a knife or cookie cutter to cut into your desired shapes.
  • Place them on the prepared sheet and bake for 15-20 minutes, until golden and crisp.
  • Let them cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Chill the butter for best results. Use a pizza cutter for easy cutting. Store in an airtight container to keep fresh.
