Preparation

  • Peel and cut russet potatoes into large chunks.
  • Bring a large pot of water to a boil, adding salt.
  • Add the potato chunks to the boiling water and cook for 10-15 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  • Drain the potatoes and let them cool slightly before mashing with a potato masher.

Cooking

  • Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) or your air fryer at the same temperature.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine the mashed potatoes with cornstarch, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper. Mix until well combined.
  • Form the potato mixture into small tot shapes and place on a greased baking sheet or in the air fryer basket.
  • Drizzle olive oil over the tots to ensure a crispy texture and bake for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown.

Serving

  • Remove the tater tots from the oven or air fryer and let them cool for a few minutes.

Notes

Use a ricer for extra fluffy texture. Let potatoes cool completely for a lighter mix and consider freezing extra uncooked tots for quick snacks.
