Ingredients

Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm Milk Adds moisture and activates the yeast for rise.
  • 1 tbsp Sugar Balances flavors and contributes to browning.
  • 2 tsps Active Dry Yeast Helps the bread rise.
  • 4 cups All-purpose Flour Creates the perfect structure.
  • 1 tsp Salt Enhances taste and strengthens dough structure.
  • 1/2 cup Unsalted Butter Adds richness.
  • 2 large Large Eggs Provides moisture, richness, and protein.
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract Elevates sweetness.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, combine warm milk and sugar. Stir in active dry yeast. Let mixture sit for about 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour and salt.
  • Create a well in the center and add frothy yeast mixture, softened butter, eggs, and vanilla extract.
  • Mix until a shaggy dough forms, then knead on a floured surface for about 8-10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1-2 hours or until it doubles in size.

Cooking

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down gently to release air. Shape it into a loaf and place it into a greased 9x5-inch loaf pan.
  • Cover the pan and let the dough rise for another 30-45 minutes until it crowns the top of the pan.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until golden brown and the loaf sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
  • Let the bread cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

Serving

  • Slice the loaf once it’s completely cooled using a serrated bread knife.
  • Serve warm with toppings such as butter, homemade jam, or fresh fruits.
  • For an elegant presentation, toast the slices lightly in the oven before serving.

Notes

Ensure the milk is warm but not hot; too hot can kill the yeast. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. Freeze slices for up to 3 months.
