Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Wash and peel the potatoes, then slice them thinly.
  • Chop the onion and mince the garlic cloves.
  • In a large skillet, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté for about 5 minutes until translucent.
  • Add the minced garlic to the skillet, cooking for another 30 seconds until fragrant.

Cooking

  • Increase the heat and add the ground beef to the skillet. Cook until browned, breaking it apart with a spatula, about 7-10 minutes.
  • Drain any excess fat if necessary, then stir in the Italian seasoning, salt, and pepper.
  • In a large baking dish, layer half of the sliced potatoes, followed by the beef mixture, and top with the remaining potato slices.
  • Pour the beef broth evenly over the layers, then cover the dish with aluminum foil.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes.

Serving

  • After 45 minutes, remove the foil. Sprinkle the cheddar and Parmesan cheese on top.
  • Return to the oven, baking uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the cheese is bubbly and golden.
  • Let it cool for about 5 minutes before serving.
  • Cut into portions, serve warm.

Notes

Make ahead and store leftovers. For best results, allow to rest for a few minutes after baking for easier serving.
