  • 1 lb ground beef Cooked and seasoned
  • 1 can condensed cream of mushroom soup

  • 1 tsp seasoning salt To enhance flavor
  • 2 cups cheddar or colby jack cheese Shredded, for topping

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  • Grease a 9x9-inch baking dish with oil or cooking spray.
  • In a skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat until well browned, then set aside.
  • Optionally, sauté any fresh vegetables in the same skillet until tender.
  • Peel and slice the potatoes into thin rounds.
  • In a bowl, mix together the cream of mushroom soup, milk, garlic powder, and seasoning salt.

Layering and Baking

  • In the greased baking dish, start layering the ingredients: first a layer of potatoes, followed by ground beef, sautéed vegetables, soup mixture, and cheese.
  • Repeat the layers until all ingredients are used, finishing with cheese on top.
  • Cover the casserole with foil and bake for 1 hour.
  • After 1 hour, remove the foil and bake for an additional 30 minutes until the potatoes are fork-tender.
  • Allow the casserole to rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

This casserole is customizable; you can swap out ground beef for turkey, add greens, or other seasonings to fit your taste. For a crunchy topping, mix breadcrumbs with butter before layering.
