Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients: 1 cup of rice, 2 tablespoons of butter, 1 large finely chopped onion, 2 cups of broth, salt, and pepper.
  • Chop the onion finely to help it caramelize evenly.
  • Measure out your rice and broth so everything is ready before cooking.
  • Heat a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Cooking

  • Add the butter to the saucepan and let it melt completely, swirling to coat the bottom.
  • Add the finely chopped onion and sauté for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown and translucent.
  • Stir in the rice and mix well, allowing it to toast for 1-2 minutes.
  • Pour in the vegetable or chicken broth, season with salt and pepper to taste, and bring to a gentle boil.
  • Cover the pan, reduce heat to low, and let it simmer for 15-20 minutes until the rice is tender.

Serving

  • Remove from heat and let sit covered for 5 minutes.
  • Fluff the rice gently with a fork and transfer to a serving dish.
  • Garnish with chopped parsley if desired and serve warm.

Notes

For best results, use low-sodium broth, avoid overcooking the onions, and rinse the rice to prevent stickiness. This dish stores well for meal prep.
