Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Gives structure to the brownies while keeping them soft.
  • 1/3 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder Imparts a rich chocolate flavor that is essential for that deep taste.
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder Helps to slightly lift the brownies for a perfect chewy texture.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances the sweetness and flavors, creating a more balanced taste.

Wet Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter Adds moisture and richness, contributing to the fudgy texture.
  • 1 cup sugar Sweetens the brownies and helps create that desirable moistness.
  • 2 large eggs Binds the ingredients together while adding richness and a soft texture.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Infuses a warm flavor that compliments the chocolate beautifully.

Additions

  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips Takes the chocolate flavor over the top with melty goodness in every bite.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for baking.
  • Grease an 8-inch square metal baking pan and line it with parchment paper, leaving some overhanging for easy removal.
  • In a medium-sized bowl, combine the flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt, then set aside.

Mixing

  • In a large bowl, whisk together the melted butter and sugar until smooth. Allow to cool slightly.
  • Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter and sugar mixture, whisking vigorously until well combined and smooth, for about 20-30 seconds.
  • Fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.

Baking and Cooling

  • Transfer the brownie batter into the prepared pan, spreading it evenly.
  • Place in the oven and bake for 28-33 minutes. Check for doneness by inserting a toothpick into the center; it should come out with a few moist crumbs.
  • Remove from the oven and allow the brownies to cool completely for 3-4 hours before lifting from the pan using the parchment paper.
  • Once cooled, cut into squares and store in an airtight container at room temperature.

Notes

For extra fudginess, consider underbaking slightly. Dust with powdered sugar for presentation or serve with vanilla ice cream.
