Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a round cake pan.
  • Gather all ingredients and let the butter sit at room temperature until it’s soft.
  • Set out your eggs so they can reach room temperature too.

Cooking

  • In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter and sugar together until fluffy—about 3 minutes.
  • Add in the eggs, one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan and smooth the top.

Serving

  • Bake for 35-40 minutes until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes, then transfer it to a wire rack.

Notes

Make this cake ahead of time. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days. You can freeze slices for up to a month.
