Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients and tools.
  • Chop dried figs into small pieces for quicker cooking.
  • Measure out the sugar and water, and squeeze the fresh lemon juice.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan, combine chopped dried figs, sugar, and water. Stir to mix.
  • Bring the mixture to a gentle boil over medium heat, stirring occasionally.
  • Reduce heat to low and let it simmer for about 30 minutes until it thickens.
  • Add the lemon juice and stir well; cook for an additional 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and allow it to cool slightly.

Serving

  • Transfer the warm fig jam into clean jars while it’s still warm.
  • If desired, sprinkle toasted sesame seeds over the top.
  • Seal the jars tightly and allow them to cool completely.
  • Enjoy your fig jam on toast, yogurt, or desserts!

Notes

For thicker jam, allow it to simmer longer. Store jars in the fridge for up to three weeks.
