Add-ins

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a loaf pan.
  • Gather all the ingredients and chop the figs, dates, and nuts.
  • In a mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add the eggs, buttermilk, and vanilla extract and beat until well combined.

Cooking

  • In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, stirring gently until just combined.
  • Fold in the chopped figs, dates, and nuts until evenly distributed.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and spread evenly.
  • Bake for 50-60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

Serving

  • Let the bread cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  • Carefully remove from the pan and transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Slice and serve warm, or store in an airtight container for later.

Notes

Toasting nuts before adding enhances flavor. Use room-temperature eggs and buttermilk for better incorporation. You can substitute part of the all-purpose flour with whole wheat flour for added nutrition. Store leftovers in an airtight container or freeze for up to 3 months.
