  • 1/4 cup rice vinegar Brings a tangy brightness that balances the richness.
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar (packed) A touch of sweetness to round out the flavors.
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch Essential for thickening the sauce to a luscious consistency.

Main Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil Used for sautéing, providing a neutral base for cooking.
  • 1 pound flank steak (sliced thinly against the grain) The star of the dish, delivering tenderness and flavor.
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt Enhances the flavor profile without overpowering.
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper (freshly ground) Adds a little kick to the overall dish.
  • 1 medium onion (sliced) Contributes sweetness and texture.
  • 1 medium red bell pepper (thinly sliced) Brightens the dish with color and sweetness.
  • 1 medium green bell pepper (thinly sliced) Provides crunch and a slight bitterness to balance flavors.
  • 3 cloves garlic (minced) Adds aromatic warmth that envelops the dish.

Instructions

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, combine the soy sauce, rice vinegar, and brown sugar. Mix well until the sugar dissolves and set aside.
  • In a separate bowl, toss the sliced flank steak with salt and ground pepper.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Add the seasoned flank steak, spreading it evenly without crowding. Cook undisturbed for about 1 minute, then stir and cook for another minute until just browned. Transfer to a plate and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the remaining tablespoon of vegetable oil. Add the sliced onions and both the red and green bell peppers. Cook for about 4 to 5 minutes until softened.
  • Return the seared steak to the skillet, add the minced garlic, and stir for about 30 seconds until aromatic.
  • Pour the prepared sauce over the steak and vegetables. Stir gently to combine and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute until the sauce thickens.

Serving

  • Garnish with sesame seeds if desired and serve over steamed rice.

Notes

For best results, let the steak come to room temperature before cooking. Use high-quality soy sauce and fresh ingredients. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
