Ingredients

Dango Dough Ingredients

  • 1 cup Sweet rice flour Creates the chewy texture that Dango is known for.
  • 2 tablespoons Sugar Provides just the right amount of sweetness.
  • 1/2 cup Water Binds the mix, making it easy to work with.
  • 3 drops Food coloring Adds vibrant colors for visual appeal.
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch Prevents sticking, ensuring easy handling.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients on a clean surface.
  • Divide the sweet rice flour into three separate bowls.
  • In each bowl, mix in the sugar and the specific food coloring of your choice for pink, green, and white.
  • Gradually add water to each bowl, mixing until a dough forms. It should be smooth and slightly sticky.
  • Let the dough rest for 15 minutes.

Cooking

  • Bring a pot of water to a boil over medium-high heat.
  • Meanwhile, shape your colored dough into small balls, approximately 1 inch in diameter.
  • Once the water is boiling, drop the Dango balls in batches; do not overcrowd.
  • Cook until they float to the top, about 3-5 minutes, plus an additional 2 minutes afterward.
  • Using a slotted spoon, remove and place them in a bowl of cold water to stop the cooking process.

Serving

  • Once cooled, dust the Dango thoroughly with cornstarch to prevent sticking.
  • Arrange them on a serving plate—feel free to be creative!
  • Serve fresh or with toppings of your choice, and enjoy the chewy, soft texture.

Notes

For best taste, serve within a few hours of making. Use warm water while mixing the dough for better texture. Store any leftovers in an airtight container to keep them fresh.
