Preparation

  • Begin by slicing the flank steak into thin, 1-inch pieces.
  • Mix together the low-sodium soy sauce, light brown sugar, minced garlic, and grated ginger in a bowl.
  • Toss the sliced steak in half of the cornstarch, coating it evenly.
  • Chop broccoli into small florets and slice the onions thin.
  • Prep your cooking area by having all ingredients handy within reach.

Cooking

  • Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  • Add the beef to the skillet, searing until browned (about 2-3 minutes).
  • Remove the beef and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of vegetable oil, then toss in the onions and broccoli, stir-frying until vibrant and tender (around 3-4 minutes).
  • Return the beef to the skillet and pour the soy sauce mixture over everything.
  • Sprinkle the remaining cornstarch into the skillet, stirring until the sauce thickens (about 2 minutes).

Serving

  • Remove the skillet from the heat once thickened.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds or green onions if desired.
