Preparation

  • Gather all your ingredients on the counter.
  • Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with a bit of food coloring, if desired.
  • Measure your sugar and water, ensuring correct amounts.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan, combine sugar and water over medium heat.
  • Stir gently until the sugar dissolves, about 5-7 minutes.
  • Once boiling, add flavoring extract and food coloring, stirring well.
  • Continue boiling until reaching the hard crack stage (300°F or 150°C), about 10-15 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and carefully pour the mixture onto the prepared baking sheet.

Cooling and Serving

  • Allow the candy to cool and harden for about 20-30 minutes.
  • Sprinkle the cornstarch mixture over the cooled candy.
  • Break or cut the candy into desired shapes.
  • Store in an airtight container.
