Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  • Cut the challah bread into 1-inch cubes and place them evenly in the baking dish.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together eggs, whole milk, heavy cream, sugar, vanilla extract, cinnamon, and salt until well combined.
  • Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes, ensuring they soak well.
  • If using, toss the sliced strawberries in a bowl with lemon juice and set aside.

Cooking & Assembling

  • Spread the softened cream cheese evenly over the bread mixture.
  • Scatter the strawberries over the top.
  • If desired, sprinkle brown sugar and chopped nuts over the mixture.
  • Cover the baking dish with foil and let it sit for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and bake for 45-50 minutes until the top is golden.

Serving

  • Remove the bake from the oven and let it cool for 10 minutes.
  • Dust with powdered sugar for a sweet touch.
  • Slice into squares and serve warm.

Notes

For gluten-free, use gluten-free bread. Let it soak for at least 30 minutes or overnight for creamier results. Store leftovers for up to 3 days.
