Ingredients

For the Bloomin' Onion

  • 1 large sweet onion Provides that sweet, textured base and flavor.
  • 2 large eggs Binds the mixture; enhances crispiness.
  • 1/2 cup water Helps create the right batter consistency.
  • 1 cup seasoned breadcrumbs Adds crunch; can be adjusted for flavor.
  • 2 tablespoons Delmas seasoning A flavorful blend that elevates the taste.
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour Creates a smooth coating during frying.
  • 2 cups oil Essential for frying, results in that classic crunch.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oil to 350°F (175°C) in a deep fryer or a frying pan.
  • Peel the onion and slice the top off. Carefully slice the onion into petals without cutting all the way through to the base.
  • In a large bowl, combine the beaten eggs and water until well mixed.
  • In a separate bowl, mix the seasoned breadcrumbs, Delmas seasoning, and flour.
  • Dip the prepared onion into the egg mixture, ensuring all petals are submerged.

Cooking

  • Carefully coat the onion in the breadcrumb mixture. Ensure even coverage for that signature crunch.
  • Once the oil is hot enough, gently lower the coated onion into the oil, cut side down. Fry for about 5-7 minutes until golden brown.
  • Turn the onion over and cook for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until crispy.
  • Carefully remove from oil and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Serving

  • Once cooled slightly, place the bloomin onion on a serving platter.
  • Serve with your favorite dipping sauce or a healthy yogurt dip to complement the flavors.
  • Encourage your friends and family to pull apart a petal and enjoy the crispy goodness together!

Notes

Use a sweet onion for a milder flavor. Double-dip the onion in the egg mixture for extra crispiness. Store leftovers in an airtight container to preserve texture.
