Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  • In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate large bowl, cream the unsalted butter and vegetable oil until fluffy.
  • Add the sugar gradually, beating well after each addition until light and fluffy, about 4–5 minutes.
  • Incorporate the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
  • Stir in the buttermilk and vanilla extract until just combined.
  • Gently fold in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Add in the chopped Oreos and gently fold until evenly distributed.

Cooking

  • Divide the batter equally between the prepared cake pans.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Once baked, allow the cakes to cool in the pans for about 10 minutes.
  • Carefully transfer the cakes to a wire rack to cool completely.

Assembly

  • While the cakes cool, prepare the frosting by beating together the room temperature butter and vanilla until creamy.
  • Gradually add in the powdered sugar, alternating with water or cream, until achieving the desired consistency.
  • Once the cakes are cool, spread a layer of frosting on top of one cake layer, then place the second layer on top.
  • Frost the top and sides of the entire cake, making sure to add more chopped Oreos on the sides for decoration.

  • Serve it at room temperature to enjoy its creamy texture.
  • Consider pairing with a scoop of your favorite ice cream for a full dessert experience.
  • Store any leftovers in an airtight container to keep it fresh.

Notes

For the best results, ensure all ingredients are at room temperature, and don't overmix the batter. Chilling the cake after frosting makes it easier to slice. Store leftovers properly for freshness.
