Brownie Base

  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter Adds richness and moisture.
  • 2 cups Granulated Sugar Sweetens the brownies perfectly.
  • 4 large Eggs Provides structure and binding.
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract Enhances the chocolate flavor.
  • 1 cup All-Purpose Flour Gives the brownies their necessary texture.
  • 1 cup Cocoa Powder Delivers a robust chocolate base.
  • 0.5 teaspoon Salt Balances the sweetness.

Flavor Enhancers

  • 1 Zest Zest of Orange Adds a refreshing citrus twist.
  • 0.5 cup Chocolate Chips Provides pockets of melty chocolate.
  • 0.5 cup Chopped Walnuts (optional) Adds crunch and nutty flavor.
  • 0.5 cup Orange Juice Enhances the orange flavor.

Instructions

Preparation

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a 9x9-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal.
  • In a large mixing bowl, cream together one cup of unsalted butter and two cups of granulated sugar.
  • Beat in four large eggs one at a time, then mix in one teaspoon of vanilla extract.
  • Add one cup of all-purpose flour, one cup of cocoa powder, and half a teaspoon of salt to the mixture.
  • Stir in the zest and juice of one orange, ensuring everything is well combined.

Cooking

  • Fold in half a cup of chocolate chips until evenly distributed throughout the batter.
  • If desired, add in half a cup of chopped walnuts for added crunch.
  • Pour the batter into your prepared baking pan and spread it evenly using a spatula.
  • Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes. Look for a slightly cracked top and a toothpick inserted in the center should come out with a few moist crumbs.

Serving

  • Once baked, remove the brownies from the oven and let them cool in the pan for about 10 minutes.
  • Carefully lift the brownies out of the pan using parchment paper, if used, and let them cool on a wire rack.
  • Cut into squares and serve warm or at room temperature.
  • Consider garnishing with a sprinkle of orange zest for an added pop of flavor.

Notes

Use fresh orange zest for the most vibrant flavor. To save time, make a double batch and freeze half for later. Consider adding a light chocolate ganache or orange-flavored frosting for extra indulgence.
