Preparation

  • Gather all the ingredients. Ensure everything is at room temperature for best results.
  • Coarsely chop the semi-sweet chocolate into small pieces for easier melting.
  • Prepare your mixing bowl and an electric mixer or whisk for blending the frosting.

Cooking

  • In a medium saucepan over low heat, combine the chopped chocolate, corn syrup, and hot water. Stir continuously until melted and smooth.
  • Remove the saucepan from heat. In a large mixing bowl, beat the softened butter until creamy.
  • Gradually add the melted chocolate mixture to the butter and mix until fully combined.
  • Slowly add powdered sugar and cocoa powder, beating well between each addition until smooth and creamy.
  • If needed, add 1-2 tablespoons of milk or water to achieve the desired consistency.
  • Finish with vanilla extract and salt, mixing until it’s perfectly blended.

Serving

  • Transfer your glossy Chocolate Fudge Frosting to a piping bag or simply spread it onto your baked goods using a spatula.
  • For the best texture, allow the frosting to rest at room temperature for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a shinier frosting, use corn syrup with the melted chocolate. Store covered in the fridge if not using right away. If frosting hardens, simply add a splash of milk and mix to restore its consistency.
