Main Ingredients

  • 2 pounds lean ground beef
  • 1 cup white onion (diced)
  • 1 small green bell pepper (seeded and diced)
  • 16 ounces tomato sauce
  • 1 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 2 teaspoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons Kickin' Cajun Seasoning Mix (or store-bought Creole seasoning)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper (adjust amount as needed)
  • 1/2 teaspoon fresh ground pepper
  • 8 pieces Kaiser rolls or hamburger buns (toasted)

Instructions

Cooking the Beef

  • In a large skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef, onions, and bell pepper until the meat crumbles and is no longer pink.
  • Drain well and return the skillet to heat.

Combining Ingredients

  • Add the tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, brown sugar, Cajun seasoning, garlic powder, crushed red pepper, and fresh ground pepper.
  • Stir everything together until it’s well combined.
  • Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for 20 minutes, stirring frequently.

Serving

  • Serve warm on toasted buns, allowing the filling to spill a bit over the sides.

Notes

For a creamy twist, add a splash of creamy dressing or a bit of sour cream. Pair with sides like sweet potato fries or coleslaw.
