Preparation

  • Gather all ingredients on your countertop.
  • In a bowl, combine glutinous rice flour, sugar, and baking powder; mix until blended.
  • Gradually add water, stirring continuously until a dough forms.
  • Gently fold in blueberries to avoid breaking them.
  • Dust the work surface with cornstarch.

Cooking

  • Take a small portion of the mochi dough and flatten it.
  • In a separate bowl, mix heavy cream and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Place a teaspoon of the cream mixture in the center of the flattened mochi and fold to seal.
  • Preheat steamer on medium heat (about 212°F or 100°C).
  • Arrange buns in steamer lined with parchment or silicone mat, leaving space between.
  • Steam for about 15 minutes or until the buns become glossy and tender.

Serving

  • Remove buns from steamer and let cool for a few minutes.
  • Dust lightly with cornstarch to prevent sticking.
  • Serve warm or cool to room temperature.

Notes

Use fresh blueberries for the best flavor, and keep mochi dough covered to prevent drying. Experiment with different fruits for variety.
