  • Lay out newspapers or a clean surface to manage potential mess.
  • Ensure your pine cones are clean and free of debris.
  • Preheat your workspace with warm water if needed for easier peanut butter spreading.

Cooking/Assembling

  • Take a pine cone and completely coat it in peanut butter, getting into all the nooks and crannies.
  • Carefully roll the peanut butter-coated pine cone in birdseed until fully covered.
  • Wrap a piece of string or twine around the top of the pine cone, making a loop for hanging.
  • Set aside and allow the ornament to firm up; if desired, refrigerate for a few minutes for a quicker set.

Serving

  • Select a suitable tree or outdoor location for your ornament display.
  • Hang your decorated pine cones on the branches where birds can easily access them.
  • Enjoy the beauty and joy of birds visiting your crafted ornaments throughout the season!

Notes

Use unsalted peanut butter for a bird-friendly treat. Cold pine cones are easier to work with. Store finished ornaments in a cool place until ready to hang. Consider double coating with peanut butter for durability.
