Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 block Tofu Extra firm, drained and pressed
  • 2 tablespoons Olive oil Can be swapped with sesame oil for different flavor
  • 2 tablespoons Soy sauce Ensure gluten-free for dietary needs
  • 1 teaspoon Smoked paprika Adds a smoky depth
  • 1 teaspoon Garlic powder Infuses extra flavor
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt To taste
  • 1/2 teaspoon Black pepper Adds a hint of spice
  • 1/2 cup BBQ sauce Star ingredient, use your favorite brand

Instructions

Preparation

  • Drain the tofu and press it between two plates to remove excess moisture. Let it sit for about 15-20 minutes.
  • While waiting, preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) or set your air fryer to 375°F (190°C).
  • Once pressed, slice the tofu into cubes or rectangles, depending on your preference.
  • In a bowl, whisk together olive oil, soy sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper.
  • Add the tofu cubes to the marinade, ensuring they’re well-coated. Let them sit for about 10 minutes.

Cooking

  • Spread the marinated tofu evenly on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, or place it in your air fryer basket.
  • For oven cooking, bake for 25-30 minutes, flipping halfway until golden and firm. For air frying, cook for about 15-20 minutes, shaking the basket halfway through.
  • During the last 5 minutes of cooking, brush the tofu with BBQ sauce to add a rich glaze.
  • Check for doneness: the edges should be crispy, and the center warm. Adjust cooking time as needed.

Serving

  • Once done, remove the tofu from the oven or air fryer and let it rest for a minute.
  • Serve over rice, in a wrap, or on a salad for a hearty meal. Drizzle with additional BBQ sauce if desired.
  • Garnish optionally with fresh herbs for added flavor and color.

Notes

Marinate tofu overnight for extra flavor. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 4 days. Can be frozen for up to 3 months.
