Ingredients
  

For the apple filling

  • 1/2 lemon 1/2 lemon, juiced Adds brightness and balances sweetness.
  • 1/4 cup 1/4 cup of water Helps steam the apples while baking.
  • 1 tsp 1 tsp vanilla extract Enhances the flavor.

For the sweet and spice mix

  • 1/2 cup 1/2 cup brown sugar Provides rich sweetness.
  • 2 tsp 2 tsp cinnamon Classic spice for warmth.
  • 1/2 tsp 1/2 tsp ginger Adds a subtle kick.
  • 1 tbsp 1 tbsp corn starch Thickens the juices released by the apples.
  • a pinch a pinch of salt Enhances flavor.

For topping

  • 2 tbsp 2 tbsp butter, cubed Adds richness.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C).
  • Place the peeled and sliced apples in a large bowl.
  • Stir in the juice of 1/2 lemon, 1/4 cup of water, and 1 tsp vanilla extract.
  • Incorporate 1/2 cup brown sugar, 2 tsp cinnamon, 1/2 tsp ginger, 1 tbsp corn starch, and a pinch of salt into the apples and mix until well combined.

Baking

  • Pour the apple mixture into a large casserole dish.
  • Add cubed butter over the apples.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake at 375°F for 30 minutes.
  • Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 10 minutes.

Serving

  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy!

Notes

Great warm or cold, and delicious with or without toppings. Can be served over pancakes or oatmeal for breakfast.
