Ingredients
  

For the Dough

  • 1 cup whole milk Provides moisture and richness.
  • 1.5 teaspoons active dry yeast Helps the dough rise.
  • 4 cups flour 00 Creates a soft, elastic dough.
  • 1/2 cup fine sugar Adds sweetness.
  • 1 large egg Binds the ingredients.
  • 1/4 cup butter Contributes to a tender crumb.
  • 1 tablespoon orange or lemon zest Adds citrusy notes.
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract Infuses sweetness.
  • 1 teaspoon salt Balances sweetness.
  • 1 egg for egg wash Provides a golden-brown finish.
  • 2 tablespoons milk For egg wash to achieve shiny finish.

For the Filling and Topping

  • 1 cup cream Luxurious filling.
  • 1 cup powdered sugar Used for sweetening the cream.
  • 1/2 cup water Combine with sugar for syrup.
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar Sweetens the syrup.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • In a small bowl, mix together milk and 1 1/2 teaspoons of sugar. Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit for 10 minutes.
  • In a stand mixer, add flour, zest, remaining sugar, salt, egg, vanilla, and yeast mixture. Knead on low speed, then increase speed for about 7 minutes.
  • Add softened butter and knead for 10-15 minutes until the dough is smooth and elastic.
  • Place dough in a lightly buttered bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm area for about 2 hours or until doubled.

Cooking

  • Divide dough into 6 parts, shape into ovals, place on a lined baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 1 1/2 hours.
  • Preheat oven to 350°F (180°C).
  • Brush buns with egg wash and bake for 18-20 minutes until golden brown.
  • Cool the buns on a wire rack.

Serving

  • Brush cooled buns with sugar syrup, cut slightly open, and fill with whipped cream.
  • Dust with powdered sugar before serving.

Notes

Utilize fresh yeast for a more robust flavor and better rise. Allow whipped cream to chill before filling to prevent sogginess.
