  • 8 pieces skinless boneless chicken thighs Consider using skinless chicken breasts for a leaner option.
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil Avocado oil can be an alternative for searing.
  • 1 cup fresh squeezed orange juice A good source of vitamin C.
  • 1 cup chicken broth Low-sodium broth keeps it heart-healthy.
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar Honey can be used for a healthier option.
  • 1/2 cup hoisin sauce Look for low-sugar versions for a lighter touch.
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced or pressed Garlic powder can be used in a pinch.
  • 2 tablespoons orange zest Lemon zest works well too.
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, peeled and grated Ground ginger can also be a substitute.
  • 1 teaspoon sriracha sauce Adjust to taste or omit if preferred.
  • Cilantro leaves for garnish Parsley can be used as a substitute.
  • Additional sliced orange for garnish Enhances presentation and flavor.

Instructions
 

Preparation

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F for baking the chicken.
  • Season the chicken thighs with kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper.

Cooking

  • Heat olive oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Sear half of the chicken thighs until lightly browned, then transfer them to a plate and repeat with the remaining thighs.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together orange juice, chicken broth, brown sugar, hoisin sauce, garlic, orange zest, ginger, and sriracha sauce until well combined.
  • Pour the glaze into the same pan used for the chicken and reduce over medium heat until reduced by a third.
  • Add the chicken back to the pan and bake in the oven for 20 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
  • Remove the chicken from the pan and place it on a serving platter. Tent with aluminum foil to keep warm.
  • Cook the glaze over medium heat until further reduced by a third. Drizzle it over the chicken and garnish with cilantro and sliced oranges if desired.

Notes

Serve with rice or steamed vegetables for a complete meal that’s macro-balanced. For storage, keep in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days or freeze for up to 3 months.
