  • 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper Adds an earthy heat to elevate the taste.
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil, chopped Bright and fragrant, it brings freshness to finish.

Preparation

  • Heat the oil in a pan over medium-high heat until hot.
  • Add red pepper chili flakes and cook for about three minutes, swirling them in the oil to prevent burning.
  • Reduce heat to medium, add diced onions and minced garlic, and sauté for about five minutes until onions are translucent.
  • Incorporate the two cans of whole tomatoes and stir until blended.
  • Cover the pot and let it cook for about ten minutes to help break down the tomatoes slightly.
  • Remove the cover and chop the tomatoes to your desired size, keeping them somewhat chunky.
  • Stir the mixture and let it simmer for about thirty minutes, stirring infrequently until thickened.
  • After thirty minutes, season to taste with sea salt and add ground black pepper.
  • Remove from heat and gently fold in the chopped basil, letting the sauce cool slightly before serving.

Notes

To enhance flavor, use high-quality oil. Avoid burning chili flakes, and use ripe whole tomatoes. For a smoother sauce, consider using an immersion blender.
