For Frying
  • 1/4 cup olive oil Ideal for frying, creating a crispy texture while complementing flavors.

Method

Preparation
  1. Press the tofu by placing it between a clean kitchen towel or paper towels, applying a heavy pan or weighted object on top for 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
  2. Cut the pressed tofu into 1/2-inch cubes and place them into a large bowl.
  3. Pour coconut aminos over tofu cubes, gently tossing to coat evenly.
  4. In a small bowl, mix cornstarch, nutritional yeast, garlic powder, onion powder, sea salt, and black pepper.
  5. Sprinkle the seasoning mix over the tofu pieces, tossing gently until each piece is evenly coated.
  6. Let the coated tofu rest for 5 minutes, then toss again to ensure a thick coating.
Cooking
  1. Warm olive oil in a skillet or wok over medium heat until it reaches about 350°F (175°C).
  2. Carefully add tofu cubes into the hot oil, ensuring they are spaced apart to prevent sticking.
  3. Fry the tofu for about 2 minutes on each side or until they become golden brown and crispy.
  4. Transfer fried tofu to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil. Serve immediately.

Notes

To achieve crispy tofu, pressing is crucial. Ensure you let the tofu rest after coating for better crunch. You can also use an air fryer for a healthier option.
